They came in Kilts and painted their faces blue and white. The Bagpipes were playing along the course. Thousands came out to celebrate.
Scotland Run participants of all speeds appreciated the clockwise route and laid-back atmosphere. Jeff Hangar, 47, of Manhattan, who sports seven “26.2” tattoos on his leg in recognition of his marathon finishes (one in Chicago and six in New York City, if you’re scoring at home), commented, “I’m doing my nine races to get into the ING New York City Marathon, but I’ll take any chance to wear a kilt. I love this race and that it goes clockwise around the park rather than the other direction. It’s a nice cool day, perfect day for a run--cannot beat it."
